About General Orlando M. Poe Camp 444
General Orlando M. Poe Camp 444 headquartered in Cadillac is the newest Camp in the Department of Michigan of the Sons
of Union Veterans of the Civil War, established in 2021. The Camp is named in honor of the unsung Civil War and Great Lakes
engineering hero Orlando Metcalfe Poe, with the Camp’s number paying homage to Cadillac’s Washington GAR Post 444.
The Camp currently is responsible for a geographical area of 5 counties across northern Michigan, striving to document and preserve graves,
monuments, and memorials honoring Union Veterans. Camp 444 also works and partners with the local communities and area Veteran,
historical, and genealogical organizations in promoting American history and honoring our Civil War Union Veterans and American
Veterans of all eras.
General Orlando M. Poe Camp 444 holds regular meetings 8 times annually in the months of March, April, May, June,
July, September, October, and November in Cadillac. Other events and activities are scheduled throughout the year.
