The
Brothers of the Gov. Crapo Camp No. 145 elected David F. Wallace
of Flint, Commander of the Camp on October 14, 1992. A Charter Member
of the Camp, Brother Wallace was installed on December 12, 1992.
He was the first Camp Commander elected by the Brothers of the Gov.
Crapo Camp after its organization in 1992.
He traces his Civil War roots through his father, Floyd E. Wallace,
whose grandfather, 5 great uncles and several cousins served in
Ohio and Michigan regiments . Brother Wallace's qualifying ancestor
is great grandfather, James Monroe Wallace, Co. I, 120th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry, who served with that regiment from July 1862 through October
1865, and after seeing previous service in the First Michigan Infantry
Regiment (90 Day).
Within the Department of Michigan, Brother Wallace has served
in most SUVCW Camp and Department offices. Brother Wallace served
as Department Commander from June 1996 to June 1997. He also served
four Commanders-in-Chief as National Secretary from June 1994 to
July 1997.
Brother Wallace is a member of the University
of Michigan Alumni Association, is a Council Member of the Clan
Wallace Society, is a Companion of the Military
Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States, and is a member
of the Vasa Order of America.
